Clarks, Timberland, Addidas, Bertin, JBS and Marfrig: Part of the Solution_\!/
Some of you know I worked in Sustainable Tourism Development in Brazil, in the Amazon (Rondonia) and in the Eastern states of Bahia and Espirito Santo.
Today I read with great joy this article from Amigos da Terra - Amazonia Brasileira discussing how important world class shoe brand manufacturers and suppiers are taking responsibility for sourcing sustainable leather.
Shoe brands get tough on leather suppliers to save Amazon rainforest - 08/04/2009
http://www.amazonia.org.br/english/noticias/noticia.cfm?id=321975
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT, and what does it have to do with 3 Finger Wednesdays?
We ask people to REDUCE or ELIMINATE their meat consumption on 3 Finger Wednesdays, particularly beef - because meat production takes so much of our precious resources, and plus the cows produce alot of methane while they are alive.
Now we see that additional Carbon is being released, because they’re CUTTING DOWN THE AMAZON FOREST so cows can live there!
Please read the article link above, and if you are buying leather shoes… Buy from the shoe companies and suppliers mentioned (Clarks, Timberland, Addidas, Bertin, JBS and Marfrig) who are pioneers in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) they won’t knowingly use leather from cows that are raised on cleared rainforest.
If you discover other companies “Being Part of the Solution” please leave a comment and let us know, so we can take business away from the TAKERS (the problem) and send our business to the GIVERS and companies who are part of the solution.
Peace Plus One_\!/
Philip
