The Sustainability Symbol

A delegation from the McMaster Institute for Sustainable Development in Commerce was invited to the International Green Economy and Living Environment Forum to speak about the Peace Plus One - World Sustainability Project , Joining representatives from UNEP, UNIDO and UN-HABITIAT to share consultations with local authorities, businesses and to visit eco-city demonstration projects.

Our delegation very much appreciated the excellent arrangements of Jia Cui (China) Environmental Promotive Center (JCEP) for their professional service, exquisite accommodations, the wonderful food and of course the opportunity to meet top officials and visit the ecological and historical sites of beautiful Changzhou.

The International Green Economy and Living Environment Forum was held in Changzhou hosted by the People’s Government of Wujin District of Changzhou City and was undertaken by the United Nations Environment Programme’s Chinese partner,  Jia Cui. The Forum was an opportunity for global discussion on the sustainable development direction of living environments and best practices.

The Forum had support from the UNEP and UN-HABITAT and the McMaster Institute was honoured to be included along with the most authoritative environmentally sustainable organizations and experts from around the world.

Prior to the Forum, we visited an eco-city demonstration project - “The West Lake Ecological City Project of Wujin” and following the speeches we attended an awards ceremony and fireworks.

At the Forum, DaLong (Philip McMaster) spoke about the ISR/CSR relationship and to “relate a new concept to an existing understanding”, McMaster used the analogy of the Blue Na’vi from the film AVATAR as 3 Fingered people who recognized their individual responsibility toward balancingSociety Environment and Economy in their everyday lives.

To “drive the message home”, Professor P (for “Planet”) encouraged participants to pull out their cellphones and take a 3 Finger Photo - right there from their seat in the audience!

As the last speech of the Forum, DaLong had the opportunity to invite and welcome participants to the next stage of the event - the dinner, and then a gala awards event where various excellent acts performed and the city mayor was presented with a “Livable City” award. The evening ended with a long, spectacular fireworks display.

SHANGHAI EXPO 2010

Our delegation visited the Shanghai Expo on what must have been the hottest day of the summer! But the organization by Jia Cui was excellent to the last handshake and group photo - We’ll post some photos and tell the story of the Expo visit in another blog.
